The Merewether Ocean Baths, located to the south of Newcastle, hold the title of being the largest ocean pool in the Southern Hemisphere. The original pool, constructed in 1926, stretches an impressive 43 meters in length. Filled naturally with ocean water, the ocean pools offer a wave free experience and are suitable for both leisurely dips and lap swimming.
The Merewether Ocean Baths and free to enjoy and as you can imagine, they are very popular with both locals and travellers. This is a family friendly swimming location, with a shallow pool for kids and larger pool for experienced swimmers. The ocean baths are open daily, with the exception of Thursdays, when they close for a full day of maintenance and cleaning.
