The Annan Gorge, located near Cooktown on the Annan River, is a scenic gorge and popular swimming spot. However, it’s essential to exercise caution when visiting this location. Swimming is only safe at the top of the gorge, where a waterfall creates a barrier that prevents saltwater crocodiles from entering.
Important Safety Warning: DO NOT SWIM in the actual gorge itself, as the Annan River is home to a large population of saltwater crocodiles. To ensure a safe experience, please only swim upstream of the gorge and waterfall.

Directions
From Cooktown.
*Take the Mulligan Highway toward the south for 28km.
*You will pass Black Mountain.
*On your left you will see Shiptons Flat Road.
*Keep going straight for another 1.4km.
*You will pass over a bridge.
*Park directly on your left after the bridge.
*Walk down to the Annan Gorge swimming hole.
