Details
Crystal Cascades is a great place to swim if you are in Cairns. As the name suggests the water is crystal clear. It’s located along Freshwater Creek in the suburb of Redlynch near Cairns. The walking trail follows a service road all the way along the creek for over a kilometre and provides access to multiple swimming holes. The pools are shaded by thick rain forest.
To get to the Crystal Cascades Waterfall, you will need to hike the Crystal Cascades track for about 1km to the top. At the top of the track you will find a lookout with some stairs leading to the base of the falls. Swimming is permitted below the falls, but please take care, as people have drowned here.
There are a number of picnic areas located a short distance from the car park. Toilets are only available in the car park at the start of the hike.

1 Review on “Crystal Cascades”
Series of about 6 swimming holes moving up the sealed path from the car park. Despite the main description declaring the water crystal clear…it is clean and fresh for swimming but rarely clear enough to see the bottom in any of the deeper pools.
The jump mentioned in the main profile, called ‘No Fear’ locally, has been the site of a few serious and some fatal accidents. Phone reception is patchy but improving.
Great spot for swimming but use your common sense and understand your own capabilities when jumping into any water.
